Paid/Unpaid, Full-time/Part-time, Duration About Us: The Community Mental Health Advocate plays a critical role in promoting mental wellness and ensuring equitable access to mental health services across underserved communities. This position involves direct outreach, education, peer support, and advocacy to help individuals and families navigate mental health systems, reduce stigma, and build pathways to culturally competent care. Key Responsibilities: Conduct community outreach to raise awareness of mental health resources and reduce stigma. Provide peer-level support and system navigation for individuals and families impacted by mental health concerns. Facilitate or co-facilitate support groups, workshops, or community events on mental health topics. Collaborate with schools, churches, health providers, and partner organizations to strengthen community response and referrals. Assist clients in completing applications for services (e.g., Medicaid, county mental health services, therapy referrals). Maintain up-to-date records and track outreach efforts, referrals, and impact data. Participate in local coalition meetings, advocacy campaigns, and mental health awareness events. Advocate for culturally responsive and trauma-informed care systems at the community and policy levels. Provide feedback to improve programs, services, and outreach strategies. Attend required trainings and staff development sessions. Qualifications: Passion for community wellness and mental health equity. Lived experience or strong understanding of mental health challenges within refugee, immigrant, or minority populations. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; bilingual (preferred but not required). Experience working in community-based settings or with diverse populations. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s in Social Work, Public Health, or related field preferred). Peer Support Certification, Mental Health First Aid, or related credential (preferred or willing to obtain). Working Conditions Flexible schedule (some evening/weekend hours may be required).
