Title: Head Coach Qualifications: Teaching certificate preferred. Minimum requirement: 60 hours of college credit. Less than 60 hours requires a hardship application. Reports to: Head Coach and Activities Director Supervises: Athletes and team assigned. Assumes supervisory control over all athletes in the program when necessary. Job Goal: To instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for individual and team success. The student shall also receive instruction that promotes moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence. Duties and Responsibilities: Has knowledge of district, state, and league regulations; implements and interprets them for staff. Establishes the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught by the staff. Provides documentation for physical exams, parental consent, and eligibility as required by state and district. Participates in the budget process with the athletic administrator. Recommends equipment and uniform needs. Promotes sports within the school by recruiting athletes who do not participate in sports. Provides assistance, guidance, and safeguards for each participant during practices, games, and travel. Is accountable for all equipment; notifies athletic administrator of costs or damages. Manages equipment issuance, storage, and collection; submits annual inventory and end-of-year reports. Assists athletes in college or advanced educational planning. Delegates duties, supervises implementation, and evaluates staff effectiveness at season’s end. Maintains discipline, addresses grievances, and works to increase morale and cooperation. Monitors student-athletes’ grades and conduct. Maintains good public relations with media, booster clubs, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans. Encourages staff professional growth through clinic attendance according to policy.
