Join our team and take charge of site operations where your knowledge in environmental management will be essential in enhancing safety and compliance. This opportunity offers the chance to work collaboratively with diverse teams and engage with key stakeholders, all while contributing to sustainable practices and innovative reclamation efforts. If you are prepared to advance in your career, this position may be just what you are looking for.

The role in a nutshell

In this role, you will lead all aspects of site management at a reclamation site, overseeing internal teams and contractors to ensure safety, environmental compliance, and project execution.

This position requires cultivating positive relationships with regulators and community members, overseeing financial plans, and ensuring adherence to permit and dam safety regulations. You’ll also oversee water treatment operations and site maintenance.

The position supports broader BMSG initiatives and joint venture engagement, in collaboration with the USA Reclamation Manager.

More specifically, you will be expected to

  • Ensure the site adheres to Glencore’s processes and standards related to HSEC, Projects, Asset Management, HR, and other relevant areas;
  • Manage compliance requirements by coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and Joint Venture partners regarding closure construction activities and necessary reporting;
  • Work in partnership with Glencore’s support teams to finalize project objectives, uphold safety standards, and guarantee the on-time delivery of reports to corporate departments while fulfilling regulatory obligations;
  • Participate in risk assessments with internal and external teams to identify and address compliance gaps in accordance with Glencore’s requirements for site activities;
  • Investigate any unusual site conditions following TARP and other Glencore protocols, determining the cause of issues and coordinating with appropriate contractors for resolution;
  • Support ICAM and other incident investigations as needed to ensure thorough analysis and corrective actions;
  • Develop the site’s yearly project schedule and operational budgets, ensuring expenditures align with Glencore’s financial processes;
  • Review environmental and consultant reports for the site, providing feedback to ensure compliance and alignment with site or project objectives;
  • Collaborate with consultants and contractors for all site work, ensuring adherence to Glencore’s protocols and adequate training for staff and contractors;
  • Work with Joint Venture partners to ensure timely completion of all regulatory requirements.

Do you have what it takes?

  • Post-secondary education in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • 10+ years of relevant industry experience, including knowledge of mining operations, mine reclamation, tailings facilities, and working in remote settings.
  • In-depth familiarity with environmental laws and permit requirements, including those related to EPA Superfund, Idaho regulations, and regulatory interaction procedures.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with over 5 years in a managerial role, including oversight of site staff, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience in contractor management, project oversight, scheduling, and the ability to adapt plans and priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve, prioritize issues, and engage the appropriate contractors or consultants for implementation.
  • Extensive HSEC knowledge and experience, including compliance with regulations and policies, budget support, internal/external reporting, and stakeholder management.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, coupled with substantial experience in Word, Excel, and various operational systems.
  • Demonstrated capabilities in organization and planning, along with extensive experience in managing complex field operations.
  • Team-oriented, adaptable, and capable of leading diverse teams in industrial and environmental contexts.

Other specific requirements

  • Ability to work safely at a remote site including outdoors in all seasons;
  • Valid driver’s license required;
  • Ability to be scheduled on-call 12-months of the year.

Travel: Travel to the site and local office, local and international (Canada) company offices as needed, annual BMSG meetings and company’s mandatory training.

Language : You have advanced proficiency in English (verbal and written).

Location: Position is based at the Salmon Office & Blackbird Operation.
